LENGTH: 5-10 minutes
TOPIC: listening to others and summarizing
Students work in pairs.
Choose a topic (this is a great source for random questions and topics) and give students a specific amount of time (30-60 seconds usually works the best). One student from the pair is supposed to talk about the topic for that whole time. After the time is gone, the other students should say: IN SHORT and then give a 1-2 sentence summary of what the other person was talking about. They need to be able to express the essence of their partner’s whole speech in very limited words.
Then the roles change.
Creating silly or interesting questions usually makes the students more interested in performing this activity.
